  1. One more chance to enjoy the summer - Labor Day weekend is coming. You’re no doubt making plans to dive into the pool or fire up the grill one more time.
  2. Grab your boombox and join the parade - Jacoti Sommes has a favorite memory from his boyhood on Columbus’s South Side. He recalls sitting under his grandmother’s coffee table and listening to a little boombox as it poured out Cyndi Lauper’s 1984 single “Time After Time.”
  3. With Homage, it's all about the stories - After the interview and photo shoot Monday night, Team Homage went back to frantically working on the store that is opening this weekend in the Short North. Owner Ryan Vesler and interior designer Suzi West from Collier West’s engaged in a debate about a purple ribbon—the kind that might be won at a local fair—that was placed in a frame along with an Archie Griffin uniform and other sports memorabilia.
  4. Bexley natives bring debut film home - If you’re hoping to meet TV star Josh Radnor and watch his new film, you’d better be prepared to stay up late. That is, unless you already have tickets.
  5. Backward musical keeps the audience involved - Watching Available Light’s production of Merrily We Roll Along, you can see why the Stephen Sondheim musical flopped on Broadway. At the same time, you can’t help admiring it.
  6. Photographs that stimulate the imagination - Deep Space: Ohio Photographers at the Riffe Gallery will make your heart sing.
  7. Columbusites heed the call of the moped - Things that are perennial trends usually seem suspect to me. So when local graffiti hero Wade Smith started a moped club with Embassy skateboarder Lil Franz, tattoo artist Scott Scantee, DJ CJ Townsend, Matt Spreedeijs and a few others, I was a bit dubious as to how it was going to pan out.
  8. Olde Towne, new image - After months of planning and missteps, Olde Towne East finally has its own version of the Short North Gallery Hop.
  9. She wants to add a tree to the family tree - Jill Ceneskie gives an amazing performance in Arborophilia. It’s topped only by what she does before she actually begins performing.
  10. Not so wicked after all - Performers in the touring show Wicked will give up their day off next week to present “Our Wicked, Wicked Ways,” a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
  11. From a glob to a glass pumpkin (with video) - Jack Pine has been making beautiful, glass pumpkins for the Circleville Pumpkin Show for near 20 years. Most of that time, he was producing his artwork from his home in Lakewood, Colorado.
