The legendary German band NEU!, released only three albums in the early 1970s that showcased Michael Rother's darkly droning electric guitar excursions lifting off over Klaus Dinger's propulsive motorik drumming. But their widespread influence continues to ripple in the directions taken by artists ranging from David Bowie to Sonic Youth, U2, and Wilco among many others. While assembling the recently released NEU! vinyl box set, Rother was inspired to invite Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth, Benjamin Curtis of School of Seven Bells, and Aaron Mullan of Tall Firs to perform the music of NEU! in concert with him. They'll also offer selections from Rother's stint in Harmonia, a group Brian Eno called the world's most important rock band. - Cornmeal - September 8, 2010 / The Basement
