| June 16, 2009 History Detectives: Case of the Nosy Reporter Harding Home, MARION 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-3:30 p.m. Warren Harding owned The Marion Daily Star newspaper for nearly 40 years and loved the newspaper business. What did one of his newspapers look like and how did he put it together? After pulling on a reporter’s hat, we’ll get to work gathering the news in old-time Marion by interviewing some interesting townsfolk. A snack made just for hungry reporters on the go is included. | June 20, 2009 Connecting to Collections Talk – “The Great Disaster of 1913″ Ohio Historical Center, COLUMBUS 2 p.m. For five days in March of 1913, incessant rain across Ohio brought death and destruction to the Miami and Scioto River Valleys. Through photographs, first person accounts and other resources, learn how this horrific natural disaster changed the face of Ohio. | June 20, 2009 Night at the Museum Ohio Historical Center, COLUMBUS 7-11 p.m. Spend a night at the museum-if you dare! Our exhibits come alive after the lights go down. Inspired by the new movie, “Night at the Museum 2,” this night promises historical adventure and fun for the whole family! | June 20-21, 2009 Muster on the Maumee Fort Meigs, PERRYSBURG 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. See the evolution of the common soldier from the Romans through modern day wars. Soldiers, artisans and civilians from Roman soldiers and medieval knights through the Vietnam era give demonstrations throughout the weekend. Period military camps are open for visiting – including one of the largest Roman and Viking Encampments in the country – and reenactors will answer your questions. Musket, rifle and artillery demonstrations take place throughout the day. Period trades people offer their wares for sale and food is available from a variety of vendors. | June 20, 2009 Mad Hatters Garden Tea Party Adena Mansion & Gardens, CHILLICOTHE 5:30-8 p.m. Celebrate the beauty of Adena’s gardens while supporting their operations with this entertaining evening of food and fun. Finger foods and herbal teas, made from harvest of the gardens and Ohio food products will highlight the food selection. Don’t forget to wear your favorite hat, as there will be a variety of prizes awarded for creativity. The night concludes with a silent auction of amazing pots decorated by Ohio artists that contain flowers and other garden goodies. All proceeds benefit of the gardens of Adena. WestervilleLife and Gardiner Newmedia are sponsoring an International Photowalk, Saturday, July 18, 2009, in Uptown Westerville.
The Westerville PhotoWalk . . .
begins at Java Central in Westerville where we can gather in the meeting room and patio for final instructions and suggestions. Plan on three hours of touring Uptown Westerville including Otterbein College. Keep looking here for more details about some of the available locations where we can pause for good photos. All Strobist photographers are welcome for a special category prize for the Westerville, Ohio, PhotoWalk.
The time chosen for the walk should provide strong sidelighting along the city’s brick streets and across the historical district homes.
